It will surprise you to know that even a typo error is enough to push you out of the line of potential job candidates. Even digital footprints can badly affect your reputation and make you less desirable for a job.

You need to be very careful when starting your job search. This includes what you say, what you write, how you behave and how your pitch your qualifications, experience and suitability for the job. If done right, you will find yourself in a glass room overlooking the beautiful view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but if done wrong, your struggle days will continue.

Common Mistakes You Need To Avoid:

  • Applying for a job when you know you are not a match

There needs to be a close-to-perfect match, if not a perfect match between your qualifications and experience, and the job listed. Even if you lack in some areas, it is up to you to convince the hiring manager, how you can meet their expectations.

  • Adding too much in your resume

Avoid writing an objective, unless it shows what you can offer the employer. Your resume should address the employers’ need, and not what you are looking for in a job. Do not overdo it with 20 years of work experience and graduation dates…You only have a few seconds to leave an impression, therefore make sure you are prepared.

  • Dressing inappropriately

You need to avoid looking like a slob, but also make sure you are not overdressed. Research the company and their culture before walking in the door. Your appearance is the first thing the interviewer will notice.

  • Saying the wrong things

As explained earlier, do not fill your resume because some things are better left unsaid. However, make sure you use your charm and bring out the passion that shows what you can offer the business. Create a match between the skills required and yourself and avoid blabbing out more than what is being asked.
